Congratulations!
You've closed on your new property.... now what?
Paperwork
Hold on to the settlement statement you received
at closing. It will come in handy at tax time.
After a couple of weeks, call the county offices
and make sure your deed has been recorded.
If property taxes were paid at closing, make sure
the funds have been received. If your new lender
will be escrowing funds for the next tax year,
forward that tax bill when you receive it.
Insurance
Make a photo or video record of your home and
possessions for insurance purposes. Keep it in
a safety deposit box or other location away from
your home. Ask your insurance provider for details.
Moving In
Sellers are generally expected to leave a home
in "broom clean" condition....that is,
ready for a deep cleaning or painting. Unless
agreed to in writing, sellers are not obligated
to have carpets or floors professionally cleaned.
Subscribe to the local paper and start to get
to know your neighbors. Homeownership and community
go hand in hand.
Enjoy your new home. We'll see you at the grocery
store!
