Automobile Driver's License
Newcomers
have 30 days to get a NC drivers license at
the Examiner's Office in Carrboro Plaza Shopping
Center, NC 54 West, Carrboro, (919) 929-4161. The
fee for a regular operator's license is $10. The
office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.
until 5 p.m. Appointments may be made. There is
a 30-day limit to register motor vehicles and get
a state license plate. The title fee is $35. The
license plate fee is $20 for cars and $21.50 for
trucks and vans. A $150 road-use tax is also assessed
for newcomers to the state. To get a license plate
a driver must show a certificate of title and proof
of liability insurance.
